How to Make the Side Step Card

shellysimages.com-egghuntpicThe "Side Step Card" is a fun card that has many different design options.  The card stands nicely for a pretty display.  Follow the directions below to make your own!

Step 1.  Measure Card Base

For this card I used a piece of cardstock that measured 6 inches by 12 inches.  This example will give you a finished card that measures 6 inches square.

Step 2.  Mark Left Side of Card

Use a pencil and ruler to measure 2 inches from the left side of the card.  Mark lightly so that it will be easy to erase your guide marks later.  This line will be the left edge of the score lines that you will make in the following steps.  This line will also be the guide used to make the cut shown in Step 5.

Step 3.  Score Card Center

Using a scoring tool, score a line that is 6 inches down the 12 inch length of the card base. This is the only score line that will go completely from one side of the card to the other.

Step 4.  Score Remaining Steps

Now score the remaining steps.  Score at 3 inches, 8 inches, 10 inches, and 11 inches.  Only score to the line made in Step 2.  These score lines do not extend to the left edge of the card.

Step 5.  Cut Step Area

Use a straight edge and a craft knife to cut along the line made in Step 2.  Begin the cut at the 3 inch score line and continue it to the 11 inch score line.

Fold a "mountain fold" along the 11 inch score line.  Fold a "valley fold" along the 10 inch score line.

Step 7.  2nd Set of Folds

Fold a "mountain fold" at the 8 inch score line.  The 6 inch score line will be a "mountain fold" on the left side of the card and a "valley fold" on the step side of the card.
